We at booksBnimble didn’t choose our name lightly. As the written word goes through its biggest change since Gutenberg, publishers and authors alike are going have to be nimble, quick, and flexible to keep up with growing opportunities. It’s humbling, it’s staggering, it’s downright electrifying to think of the ways you can tweak traditional storytelling online these days.

It doesn’t matter how long or short a book is any more— if you go the e-route, you’re not going to have to pay for printing seven hundred pages and, in turn, charge the customer exorbitantly for it, nor will you have to worry if, given the space limitations, a bookstore will be able to stock a book. Books will no longer have to go out of print. Also, if you want pictures or videos to illustrate your novel, it’s not only possible, but neither of those is going to cost the ranch any more. Enhanced books, those including multimedia options, can be imaginative ways to present stories and ideas as well as entertaining and informative formats for readers.

With ebooks, you can literally do almost anything your imagination can dream up.

We all know publishing has to change to accommodate the technology—even Big Pub knows that. So we’re trying to do our part not only with new ideas, new formats, and exciting new authors, but also with forward-looking marketing that says “yes” to change but also seeks to help save what we have. We plan to sell our books in bookstores. The last thing we want is for our favorite neighborhood shops to go out of business! And they’re all afraid they’re going to, so why not cut them in? We’d like to try to be part of the solution.

Phone Kitten

When Julie Smith and her cohort, Elizabeth Lareau, of BooksBnimble, decided to go into the ePublishing business, they launched with a bang.  Deciding that they needed a little help, they looked around for an eBook producer that not only had experience in creating eBooks, but in embedding videos for enhanced eBooks as well—and an eBook producer with a sense of humor.  They found everything that they needed at BooksBnimble, and took delivery of their first two books, including Phone Kitten, in mid-November, 2010.

Too Jewish

The second of the books to be converted for Julie Smith’s new ePublishing imprint, BooksBnimble, Too Jewish came to us in Microsoft Word, with a pretty big video file attached.  We converted the book and converted the video, and delivered the book just in time for BBN’s “on sale for Hannukah” deadline.
